June Hwajung (b. 1991, South Korea) is a Vienna-based visual artist working across painting, installation, and performance. His practice examines the conditions through which bodies, objects, and forms of life come to belong, remain, and function within social and intimate structures.
Drawing from experiences of migration, adaptation, and shifting cultural contexts, June explores belonging not as a fixed state but as something continuously negotiated and maintained. Familiar objects and domestic environments often appear displaced, worn, tilted, or unable to perform as expected, revealing the quiet systems of adjustment that sustain what appears stable. Rather than treating misalignment or dysfunction simply as failure, his work questions the norms that determine how an object, a body, or a life is expected to function.
Material processes play an increasingly central role in this investigation. Through fragile surfaces, uneven weight, suspension, attachment, and repeated acts of breaking and reassembling, June translates experiences of instability and persistence into physical structures. Across his practice, stability emerges not as a fixed condition, but as something continuously produced through care, control, repetition, maintenance, and attachment.
